No. 1 — $4,020,000 · 1434 N Dearborn St, Chicago, Illinois

Top home sale No. 1 in Chicago, Illinois — 1434 N Dearborn St, Chicago, Illinois, week ending October 25, 2026

The oldest home in this group is also the largest. Built in 1888, the limestone single-family home on North Dearborn Street sold for $4,020,000, and it has about 6,815 square feet across three stories on a 3,725-square-foot lot, with five bedrooms and seven bathrooms, five full and two half.

Its interiors keep the period bones, including tall ceilings and original millwork, and set them against a restrained Scandinavian-influenced design. The kitchen and family room share a modern fireplace and a wall of glass that opens to a large terrace at the back. Formal living and dining rooms sit apart from that everyday space, and the home has five fireplaces in all, among them one in the den and one in the primary bedroom.

The primary suite takes the whole top level. Its bath was redone in slate and travertine with hemlock accents, and a soaking tub sits under a skylight. A sauna and a room for yoga or workouts are part of the suite, and a private terrace opens off this floor among the tree canopy. Three more bedrooms and a family room are on the second level, a guest suite is on the lower level, and a private elevator connects the floors. The home also has an attached three-car garage, and the lakefront, parks and the Latin School of Chicago are a short walk away.

The property last sold for $2.6 million in 2012.

Carrie McCormick of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate was the listing agent, and Emily Sachs Wong, also of @properties Christie’s International Real Estate, represented the buyer. It was the first of three listings by McCormick in this week’s Top 5, and @properties Christie’s International Real Estate was the listing brokerage on three of the five sales.
