No. 1 — $1,650,000 · 19427 Rolling Hills Dr, Culpeper, Virginia

Top home sale No. 1 in Greater Piedmont, Virginia — 19427 Rolling Hills Dr, Culpeper, Virginia, week ending October 25, 2026

Visitors to 19427 Rolling Hills Drive arrive through handcrafted iron gates set between stone pillars, and the drive beyond them leads to a brick Colonial on 10.09 acres in the Green Valley Farm neighborhood of Culpeper. The home sold for $1,650,000.

Much of what sets the interior apart is the wood. Rustic cherry hardwood covers much of the main level, the private in-law suite is floored in rustic walnut, and hardwood carries on through the upper level. The trim on the main level was custom milled from a maple tree about 100 years old that came from Elkton, Virginia.

Built in 1988, the home has four bedrooms, two of them on the main level, and six bathrooms in 5,239 square feet, the most living space among this week’s five. A double staircase rises from the entry. The gourmet kitchen has an island and a breakfast area, with a butler’s pantry nearby, and vaulted, cathedral, tray and two-story ceilings appear in different rooms. There are four fireplaces, along with a pellet stove, and an attached garage for three cars.

Outside, the land opens to pasture and water views. A pond of about one acre is stocked with koi raised on the property, along with catfish, bluegill and largemouth bass. The grounds also include a private pool, a patio, a porch, a balcony, water fountains and extensive hardscaping, with wooded edges that give the lot its seclusion. The property last sold for $725,000 in 2017.

Robby Rowland of Rowland and Associates Realty, LLC. was the listing agent, and Flavia Yuch of Redfin Corporation represented the buyer in the week’s top sale.

No. 2 — $1,400,000 · 4791 Observatory Ln, Linden, Virginia

Top home sale No. 2 in Greater Piedmont, Virginia — 4791 Observatory Ln, Linden, Virginia, week ending October 25, 2026

The view is the organizing idea at 4791 Observatory Lane in Linden, a one-story contemporary designed by Wouter Boer Architects and completed in 2025. The home sold for $1,400,000 and went under contract 27 days after it was listed.

Set among trees on 10.35 acres in the Blue Ridge Mountains, the home was raised above the natural grade, and floor-to-ceiling glass looks out over the Shenandoah Valley. The exterior pairs steel, glass and corrugated cladding in a manner drawn from contemporary New Zealand architecture, under a dramatic cantilevered roof. Pella windows and skylights bring light deep into the rooms.

At 1,675 square feet, with two bedrooms and two bathrooms, it is the most compact home in this week’s group. The kitchen, living and dining areas share one open space, and custom wall paneling runs from those rooms into the primary suite. A freestanding Nectre N65 wood-burning fireplace warms the living area. The bathrooms have heated floors, and one includes a BainUltra BeONE soaking tub modeled on Japanese bathing traditions.

The land carries traces of earlier occupants, including old stone walls, a root cellar and the remains of an early chimney. The private road that serves the property meets the Appalachian Trail at its base, and Shenandoah National Park is close by. The property last sold for $150,000 in 2021, before the current home was built.

Chloe Powell and Sherry Lee Santmyer, both of Hunt Country Sotheby’s International Realty, were the listing agents. Vera Boujaoude of Coldwell Banker Elite represented the buyer.

At 5114 Laurel Lane in Broad Run, a 1971 contemporary sits on a gentle knoll in the middle of 14.79 acres, the largest parcel and the oldest home among the week’s five sales. It sold for $1,200,000, its full asking price, after going under contract 14 days from its listing.

The property is set up for horses and for entertaining. A large cinderblock barn, a grass riding arena and black board fencing serve the animals, while custom hardscaping, stone retaining walls, broad gardens and a fire pit surround the home. The gunite pool was built by Anthony Pools. From the high ground, the views take in mountains, pasture and woods, and the listing says they reach as far as the Washington skyline.
