No. 1 — $2,100,000 · 4950 Canterbury Pl, Morganton, North Carolina

Top home sale No. 1 in Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Area, North Carolina — 4950 Canterbury Pl, Morganton, North Carolina, week ending November 1, 2026

The week’s top sale is a Victorian home in East Shores, in Morganton, that sits on its own peninsula on Lake James. It sold for $2,100,000. The property has 450 feet of private shoreline, a private beach and a new dock, and a fire pit is set out on the point. Views reach across the water to the mountains in every season.

Built in 1994, the home is the oldest of the five, and with 6,579 square feet on three stories it also has the most living space. Its five bedrooms and six bathrooms, five full and one half, are likewise the most in the group. The entry is a tall foyer with a curving staircase, and the room people remember is a circular library that rises two stories. The kitchen has a wood-burning fireplace of its own, and there are fireplaces as well in the living room, the den, the family room, the recreation room and the primary bedroom. The primary suite opens to a private balcony and has a spa-style bath. Below, the partly finished basement has walk-out access, a workshop, and plumbing already in place for a kitchen.

Outside, a wraparound porch looks over the lake and the mountains. The 1.14-acre lot, on a cul-de-sac, is level and wooded, with three waterfalls, a goldfish pond and an open lawn big enough for croquet or a full-size pickleball court. There is also an outdoor shower, and the community has a pool.

Rachel Alosky Stark of Patton Allen Real Estate LLC was the listing agent, and Loralie Clark of Engel & Volkers Foothills Lake James represented the buyer in the highest-priced sale of the week.

No. 2 — $1,097,000 · 135 Chetola Ridge Dr, Taylorsville, North Carolina

Top home sale No. 2 in Hickory-Lenoir-Morganton Area, North Carolina — 135 Chetola Ridge Dr, Taylorsville, North Carolina, week ending November 1, 2026

In Taylorsville, a chalet built in 2023 on 15.62 acres sold for $1,097,000. It is the newest home among the five and sits on the largest lot. Much of its character comes from the wood: interior beams were milled from a barn dating to the early 1900s, the floors are rustic white oak, and Douglas fir beams frame the exterior, which is finished in wood and cement siding.

On the main level, the kitchen, dining area and living room share one open, light-filled space centered on a wood-burning fireplace of stacked rock that runs floor to ceiling. The primary suite, a laundry room and a half bath are on the same floor, and a loft above the living room serves as an office. The walk-out lower level is set up almost as a second home, with a full kitchen, a bathroom, two guest bedrooms, one now used as a game room, and a living area with a second rock fireplace. A patio opens off that level, and a large deck sits above it.

In all, the home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms and 4,116 square feet, with a two-car attached garage. A detached, insulated workshop measuring 30 by 50 feet adds room for vehicles, hobbies or storage.

The home went under contract 24 days after it was listed. Michelle Hartness of Hartness Hometown Properties was the listing agent.
