No. 1 — $16,999,000 · 53 Montecito Dr, Corona Del Mar, California

The week’s top sale was a newly built modern home in the Spyglass Hill community of Corona Del Mar, which sold for $16,999,000. It stands on a 0.36-acre corner lot, with views that reach from Newport Harbor and the Back Bay out to the Pacific and Catalina Island, and inland to the mountains and the city lights.
The entry sets the tone. Its ceiling rises 22 feet, a moss wall climbs two stories against exposed concrete, and a water feature runs through the entry and continues beneath the staircase. Stone, wood, custom millwork and sculptural light fixtures carry through the rest of the interior. The kitchen is built around two islands, with illuminated Cristallo and alabaster lighting, and the living and dining areas open to the grounds through seven sets of floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors.
Outside, the grounds wrap around the home, with a heated infinity pool and spa, a barbecue, dining areas and a covered California room. An open-air courtyard planted with an olive tree and set around a second water feature brings light into the interior and leads to one of the main-level bedroom suites, which is shown as a private gym.
The home has 7,584 square feet, six bedrooms, each with its own bath, and eight bathrooms in all: six full and two half baths. There are primary suites on both levels. The upstairs primary faces the horizon and has a large walk-in closet and a bath where a freestanding tub sits before a picture window. A private theater also serves as a safe room, and the home has an elevator, a laundry room on each level, a mudroom, a three-car garage and Josh.ai home automation. The property last sold for $5.37 million in 2024, before the current house was built.
The home went under contract 20 days after it was listed. Paul Daftarian and Obeid Habibi of Luxe Real Estate were the listing agents, and Bradford Bankenbush of Douglas Elliman of California – Corona Del Mar represented the buyer in the week’s top sale.
