No. 1 — $9,500,000 · 51-53 Leonard St, New York, New York

Top home sale No. 1 in the New York metro area β€” 51-53 Leonard St, New York, New York, week ending October 11, 2026

The top sale of the week was a penthouse at 51-53 Leonard Street in Tribeca, which sold for $9,500,000. The building dates to 1882, making this the oldest home in this Top 5 by year built, and the apartment has just come through a complete two-year gut renovation that the owner supervised.

Outdoor space shapes the whole home. Gardens paved in Glacier Stone tile sit on every level, and floor-to-ceiling glass doors and 20 large windows bring them, and a great deal of light, into the rooms. A keyed elevator opens to the foyer, which leads into a large entertaining space with views to the south, west and north. The living room has a wood-burning fireplace, and a library opens into it. The dining room, lit by a skylight, has its own big terrace with a fountain and a grill. In the kitchen are Calacatta marble countertops, a Wolf stove and hood, a Sub-Zero refrigerator and two Miele dishwashers, and nearby is a wet bar with a full-size Sub-Zero wine cooler. On the roof there is a large Jacuzzi.

A white glass stairway climbs to the bedroom level. The primary suite has a second wood-burning fireplace, a windowed bathroom finished in Venetian plaster and a balcony facing north toward the skyline. Floors are heated throughout. The home has four bedrooms and four baths, three of them full baths and one a half bath. The property last sold for $8.9 million in 2018.

Upstairs, the primary suite occupies its own wing, with a fireplace, a large dressing room and a private terrace that reaches a roof deck. A breezeway connects the main home to a bonus room above the attached garage. The lower level is given over to leisure: a glass-enclosed gym with a sauna and steam room, a movie theater, a lounge with a bar, an indoor golf simulator and a safe room.

Outside, a 16-by-50-foot gunite pool and a separate heated spa sit at the center of the grounds, ringed by stone patios, and a tennis court is tucked into the landscaping. The property last sold for $1.4 million in 2022, before the current house was built.
