Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) Top 5 Home Sales: A Waterfront Property in Gray Leads as Johnson City Takes Four

These are the highest-priced home sales reported in Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) for the week ending November 1, 2026, and together the five came to $4.15 million. Four of the homes are in Johnson City and one is in Gray, and every one of them sits on more than an acre.

The group runs from a home finished in 2021 to one built in 1948, and two of the five share the same sale price. Several come with room for a second household, whether a separate guest house, a lower-level suite or a private apartment. Berkshire Hathaway Greg Cox Real Estate listed three of the five.

No. 1 — $935,000 · 192 Snyder Rd, Gray, Tennessee

Top home sale No. 1 in Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) β€” 192 Snyder Rd, Gray, Tennessee, week ending November 1, 2026

The highest-priced sale of the week was a lakefront property in the Oak Grove area of Gray, on a deep-water cove of Boone Lake. It sold for $935,000.

The setting is the draw. The 1.50-acre lot slopes gently down to the water with no steps along the way, and it has about 120 feet of shoreline, a private boat launch and a dock built on two levels. The water is in view from the property, and a covered back deck and a side porch give places to take it in.

The main home is an all-brick ranch built in 1981, with two fireplaces, one of them in the living room, an attached two-car garage and a combined kitchen and dining area. Below the main floor, a walk-out lower level adds a den, a bath, laundry and more living space. A separate guest house has two bedrooms, one bath, a kitchen, a living area and a sunroom of its own. Counting both homes, the property has five bedrooms, four bathrooms and 4,394 square feet of living space. A covered port for a motorhome, with an enclosed workshop, rounds out the grounds.

The property went under contract 28 days after it was listed. Katie Britton of REMAX Checkmate, Inc. Realtors was the listing agent, and Chad Slimm of Watkins Home Team represented the buyer.

No. 2 — $860,000 · 179 Taylortown Rd, Johnson City, Tennessee

Top home sale No. 2 in Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) β€” 179 Taylortown Rd, Johnson City, Tennessee, week ending November 1, 2026

The newest home in this Top 5 is a Craftsman finished in 2021 on 2.25 partly wooded acres in the Central area of Johnson City, in Carter County. It sold for $860,000, the same price as the No. 3 sale. The property last sold for $58,500 in 2020, before the current home was built.

A wraparound front porch greets visitors, and a covered deck runs along the back with mountain views. Inside, the plan is open. The living room rises to a vaulted ceiling over a brick fireplace, and the kitchen is built around a large island, with custom cabinets, granite counters and a walk-in pantry big enough to step into.

The two-story home has three bedrooms, four bathrooms and 3,796 square feet. The primary suite is on the main floor, and its bath has two vanities, a soaking tub and a tiled walk-in shower. Two bonus rooms give space for an office or a gym. Below, a plumbed but unfinished walk-out basement has its own garage door, and the attached garage has room for four cars.

Amanda Westbrook of Westbrook Legacy Realty was the listing agent. Andrea Pendleton of The Addington Agency Bristol represented the buyer.

No. 3 — $860,000 · 801 Cloudland Dr, Johnson City, Tennessee

Top home sale No. 3 in Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) β€” 801 Cloudland Dr, Johnson City, Tennessee, week ending November 1, 2026

Built in 1963 in Johnson City’s Gump Addition, this Mid-Century Modern home is the largest of the five, with 5,999 square feet, five bedrooms and five bathrooms on 1.70 acres. It sold for $860,000, matching the price of the No. 2 sale.

The architecture announces itself at the front door. A custom spiral staircase that appears to float rises from a large foyer to an upper loggia walled in glass. The main level has a formal dining room, a big living room with a fireplace, and a den that doubles as a library, lined with built-ins. In the updated kitchen, the centerpiece is an AGA range, set off by granite counters and an island, and a wet bar sits nearby.

The finished lower level works as a second household, with its own full kitchen, more bedrooms, baths and a recreation room with the home’s second fireplace. Outside, a patio, a balcony and garden space look out over mature grounds toward Buffalo Mountain.

The neighborhood has its own history. According to the listing, the Gump grew from grounds tied to the original Johnson City Country Club before developer Harry D. Gump turned the land into a landscaped residential area platted in 1927. The property last sold for $492,200 in 2020.

The home went under contract two days after it was listed. Kelly Hixson of Berkshire Hathaway Greg Cox Real Estate was the listing agent, the first of three homes in this Top 5 listed through that brokerage. Shane O’Hare of REMAX Checkmate, Inc. Realtors represented the buyer.

No. 4 — $800,000 · 1302 Iris Ave, Johnson City, Tennessee

Top home sale No. 4 in Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) β€” 1302 Iris Ave, Johnson City, Tennessee, week ending November 1, 2026

The oldest home in the group dates to 1948, but little of it is old inside. The brick and stone home at 1302 Iris Avenue in Johnson City was taken down to the studs and rebuilt in 2010, and it sold for $800,000.

That rebuild brought oak hardwood floors, an open floor plan and geothermal heating and cooling, along with remodeled rooms and built-ins throughout. The two-story home has four bedrooms, five bathrooms and 3,953 square feet. The primary suite is on the main floor, with a soaking tub, a shower with two heads, a safe room and a door straight out to a private patio. The den and the living room each have a fireplace.

A separate apartment with a private entrance has its own kitchen, bath and laundry, which suits extended family or a home office. The partly finished basement adds another full bath and a bonus room with an exterior entry. On the 1.03-acre lot, the backyard is level, with a fenced dog yard, front and rear porches, and an oversized attached garage with a charger for an electric car. The property last sold for $115,000 in 2008.

Kelly Hixson of Berkshire Hathaway Greg Cox Real Estate was the listing agent, the second of the brokerage’s three listings in this Top 5. Kelly Wherry of CENTURY 21 Legacy represented the buyer.

No. 5 — $694,900 · 129 Ridgemont Rd, Johnson City, Tennessee

Top home sale No. 5 in Johnson City & Watauga Lake Area (Tennessee) β€” 129 Ridgemont Rd, Johnson City, Tennessee, week ending November 1, 2026

Architect Alfred H. Abernethy drew the plans for 129 Ridgemont Road in 1963, and the sprawling brick ranch was built the next year. The original drawings survive with the home, covering its elevations, custom millwork, arched carport and leaded-glass front entrance. Abernethy’s own residence, Owls & Oaks, stands four doors down the street. The home sold for $694,900.

It sits on 3.58 acres in North Johnson City, the largest lot of the five, about half a mile from Science Hill High School. Mature trees screen the grounds, and Abernethy also designed the six-sided tea house that sits on them, near a brick terrace.

The one-story home has three bedrooms, four bathrooms and 3,331 square feet, with the primary bedroom on the main level and parquet floors in places. An attached guest suite, part of the original design, has its own kitchen, pantry and bath. The property last sold for $250,000 in 1995, 31 years ago.

The home went under contract three days after it was listed. Kelly Hixson of Berkshire Hathaway Greg Cox Real Estate was the listing agent, making it the third of the brokerage’s listings in this Top 5, and Andrew White of KW Johnson City represented the buyer.
