Southeast Iowa Top 5 Home Sales: A Fort Madison Country Home Leads the Week

Two homes on acreage, a Mount Pleasant condominium and a pair of in-town homes in Des Moines County made up the week's top sales.

Southeast Iowa Top 5 Home Sales: A Fort Madison Country Home Leads the Week

Five towns in four counties each had one of the highest-priced home sales reported in Southeast Iowa for the week ending October 25, 2026. Together the five sold for a combined $1.734 million.

The list runs from Fort Madison and Ottumwa to Mount Pleasant, Mediapolis and Burlington, and it mixes country land with neighborhood streets: four single-family homes and one condominium, built between 1973 and 2010. In two of the sales, the same agent was on both sides.

The week’s top sale is a home on 20.17 acres of open fields and woods at 2096 290th Avenue in Fort Madison. It sold for $500,000, just above its asking price of $499,000, and has the largest lot and the most living space of the five.

Built in 2006, the home has three bedrooms, two full baths and a half bath in 2,369 square feet. The living room, dining area and kitchen run together on an open main floor that also has a mudroom and laundry. The primary suite is on the upper level, with an oversized walk-in shower and a door to a deck above an enclosed koi water garden.

Below is a full walkout basement with daylight and an egress window, and the listing says there is room there for two more bedrooms. A detached garage with space for two and a half cars is insulated and heated, with air conditioning, enough for vehicles or a workshop. Beyond it, the acreage is a mix of open ground and woods. The property last sold for $150,000 in 2009.
