Chicago, Illinois Metro Area Top 5 Home Sales: $3.7 Million Old Town Home Leads a Week From Hinsdale to Bannockburn

The five highest-priced home sales reported in the Chicago metro area for the week ending October 18, 2026, came to a combined $15.74 million. Three of the sales were in Chicago, in Old Town, the Gold Coast and Lincoln Park, and the other two were in the suburbs, one in Bannockburn in Lake County and one in Hinsdale in DuPage County.

The group spans nine decades of building, from a Hinsdale home built in 1936 to a Lincoln Park home completed this year. Four of the sales were single-family homes and one was a condominium, and Compass and Jameson Sotheby’s Intl Realty each listed two of the five.

No. 1 — $3,725,000 · 1857 N Burling St, Chicago, Illinois

Top home sale No. 1 in the Chicago metro area β€” 1857 N Burling St, Chicago, Illinois, week ending October 18, 2026

The top sale of the week was a limestone and stucco home on North Burling Street in Old Town, built in 1992, that sold for $3,725,000. The property last sold for $271,500 in 1991, before the current house was built.

The home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms and 5,500 square feet of living space on a 3,871-square-foot city lot. Its kitchen has been fully renovated, with Sub-Zero and Miele appliances, a pair of Gaggenau ovens, a marble island and a walk-in pantry. There are three fireplaces, in the living room, the family room and the primary bedroom, and the primary bath has a steam shower and heated floors. A separate dining room and a wet bar serve for entertaining, and the finished basement, with its own outside entrance, has a recreation area and a sleeping area.

Outdoor space is unusually generous for the city. The home has a roof deck along with other decks, a patio and a balcony, and the landscaped backyard was laid out with artificial turf, a putting green and a basketball hoop. The attached two-car garage has an electric-vehicle charger, and the home is in the Oscar Mayer School District.

The home went under contract 12 days after it was listed. Samuel Friedell of Compass was the listing agent, and Philip Skowron, also of Compass, represented the buyer. It was one of two Compass listings in this week’s Top 5, along with the Lincoln Park sale at No. 5.

No. 2 — $3,375,000 · 28 Aberdeen Ct, Bannockburn, Illinois

Top home sale No. 2 in the Chicago metro area β€” 28 Aberdeen Ct, Bannockburn, Illinois, week ending October 18, 2026

In Bannockburn, a shingle-style home sold for $3,375,000. It sits on 2.40 wooded acres in Tarns Of The Moor, a cul-de-sac enclave of ten estate properties, with views across an association-maintained pond.

Built in 2016 of cedar and stone, the two-story home has five bedrooms, seven bathrooms and 5,684 square feet, the most living space of the five sales. A two-story foyer opens the main floor, where stained oak floors run through the rooms. The kitchen pairs white shaker cabinets and soapstone counters with a large island and a professional range, and the family room next to it has a stacked-stone fireplace beneath a shiplap ceiling. A pub room, a grasscloth-lined dining room, a paneled lounge and a private office round out the main level.

Upstairs, four bedrooms each have their own bath, and the primary suite has two vaulted walk-in closets. The fifth bedroom suite is on the finished lower level, along with a recreation room, a fitness studio and a games area. Outside, a rectangular pool with a sun shelf is joined by a cedar-shingled pavilion, a bluestone terrace and an outdoor kitchen, and the property also has an outdoor hot tub and an attached three-car garage. The property last sold for $2.23 million in 2017.

No. 3 — $3,015,000 · 635 S Oak St, Hinsdale, Illinois

Top home sale No. 3 in the Chicago metro area β€” 635 S Oak St, Hinsdale, Illinois, week ending October 18, 2026

The oldest home in this week’s group is a Colonial Revival in Hinsdale’s Robbins Park Historic District, designed by Harford Field in 1936 and owned by one family. It sold for $3,015,000.

Much of the original fabric remains. Old-growth Douglas fir paneling lines rooms, Geneva metal cabinets are still in the kitchen, and the baths keep their midcentury Crane fixtures in blue, pink and white. There are floor-to-ceiling push-out windows, thick six-panel doors, a built-in record player and Indiana limestone, and the exterior combines limestone, cedar and plaster. The two-story home has five bedrooms, four bathrooms, a library and staff quarters in 4,154 square feet, with wood-burning fireplaces in the living room and the basement.

The lot covers 0.67 acres, with mature trees, a screened outdoor space, a patio and a roof deck. The listing presented the property to buyers interested in restoring the home, restoring and expanding it, or building new, and noted that the Village of Hinsdale offers incentives to help preserve the home’s appearance from the street.

The home went under contract nine days after it was listed and sold above its $2.5 million asking price by $515,000. Elaine Pagels, CSC, and Tina Porterfield, GRI, both of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Chicago, were the listing agents, and Pagels also represented the buyer, so the same agent was on both sides of the sale.
