The Week Ahead in Real Estate

The Federal Reserve's Oct. 27-28 meeting falls between September new-home sales and the first estimate of third-quarter GDP, with D.R. Horton's year-end results and UWM's rights-offering pricing window also on the calendar.

The Week Ahead in Real Estate

The Federal Reserve’s Oct. 27–28 meeting is the main event of the coming week. It falls between two key housing releases: new-home sales on Tuesday and the first estimate of third-quarter GDP on Thursday. These are the scheduled events for Oct. 26 through Oct. 30, 2026, each checked against the issuing agency’s or company’s own calendar.

The Fed decision

Tuesday, Oct. 27 – Wednesday, Oct. 28: FOMC meeting. The Federal Open Market Committee’s 2026 calendar lists a two-day meeting, with the decision on Wednesday. Unlike the September and December meetings, this one is not scheduled to include a new Summary of Economic Projections.

The committee raised its target range by a quarter point to 3.75% to 4% at its Sept. 16 meeting. According to the minutes of that meeting, “most participants assessed that another increase in the target range for the federal funds rate would likely be appropriate by year end.” The same minutes described financing conditions as “somewhat restrictive for residential mortgage borrowers.” RealtyWire covered those minutes when they were released Oct. 7.

The Fed sets short-term rates, not mortgage rates, but the statement and the chair’s comments can move the Treasury yields that mortgage pricing follows. The 30-year fixed averaged 7.32% in Freddie Mac’s Oct. 22 survey, down from 7.40% the week before.

Housing data

Tuesday, Oct. 27: New-home sales, September β€” 10 a.m. ET. The Census Bureau’s Survey of Construction schedule sets the September new residential sales report, along with revised building permits at 8 a.m., for Tuesday. August’s report showed sales at a 684,000 annual rate, the fastest pace of 2026, and the average sale price fell 9.1% from July. September covers a month in which the 30-year average crossed 7%, reaching 7.03% in Freddie Mac’s Sept. 24 survey. Builders have already reported fewer orders: PulteGroup said orders fell in five of its six regions in the third quarter.

Tuesday, Oct. 27: FHFA House Price Index, August. The Federal Housing Finance Agency’s release calendar lists its monthly index covering August for Tuesday. The quarterly report, with third-quarter data, follows on Nov. 24.

The economy

Thursday, Oct. 29: GDP (advance estimate), third quarter, and personal income and outlays, September β€” 8:30 a.m. ET. The Bureau of Economic Analysis release schedule has both reports Thursday morning. The first includes residential investment, which measures housing’s direct contribution to growth. The second includes the PCE price index, the inflation measure the Fed targets. Both arrive the day after the Fed decision and could shape how markets read the committee’s next move.

Thursday, Oct. 29: Freddie Mac mortgage rates β€” noon ET. Freddie Mac says its Primary Mortgage Market Survey is released weekly on Thursdays at 12 p.m. ET. This will be the first reading after the Fed decision.

Earnings and deadlines

Thursday, Oct. 29: D.R. Horton, fiscal fourth quarter. The homebuilder has said on its investor relations site that it will release fourth-quarter and fiscal year-end results on Oct. 29. Its fiscal year ended Sept. 30, so the results will cover the summer quarter when rates rose. Its order trends and incentive levels will be the first fiscal-year-end read from a major builder since PulteGroup’s report.

Tuesday, Oct. 27: UWM rights-offering pricing window opens. The subscription price for UWM Holdings’ $400 million rights offering is based on the 10 trading days ending on the third trading day before the offering expires on Nov. 12. That window runs from Oct. 27 through Nov. 9. UWM disclosed on Oct. 23 that it plans to sell $70 billion to $80 billion of mortgage servicing rights this quarter and said outside investors were unlikely to subscribe in material amounts.
