All five are single-family homes, and they span nearly a century of building, from a 1922 Arts and Crafts home near downtown Morganton to a mountain home in Nebo finished in 2019. Three of them sit on lots of more than two acres.
No. 1 — $1,749,000 · 2775 Campbells Trce, Nebo, North Carolina

The top sale of the week was a 2019 custom home in Nebo designed around its outlook. From the home, long-range views take in the Seven Sisters, Mount Mitchell and Dobson’s Knob, and the mountains stay in sight year-round.
The great room has a vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, a stone fireplace and wide windows turned toward the peaks. The kitchen has an island and a walk-in butler’s pantry. The private primary suite is on the upper level and has a covered deck of its own. Below, the full walk-out basement adds two more bedrooms, a full bath and room for gathering, along with a wine-cellar-style room kept at temperature by its own mini-split system. In all, the home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms (two full and one half) and 2,974 square feet on 1.67 wooded acres.
Outside, a large screened porch looks out over the mountains, and the landscaped grounds include a grilling area and an outdoor fireplace. The property also has a workshop outbuilding.
The home is in the 1780 community, and ownership comes with access to Camp Lake James, a private lakeside retreat a short walk away. There, residents have a pool, a fitness center and a beach. Canoes, kayaks, tennis and pickleball courts round out the recreation. A deeded boat slip with electricity is included with the home.

No. 2 — $850,000 · 311 W Union St, Morganton, North Carolina

The oldest home in this Top 5 stands one block from downtown Morganton, in the city’s historic district. Built in 1922, it is a Craftsman airplane bungalow that also draws on the Prairie School, and it was built by R.O. Huffman, a son of the founder of Drexel Furniture. Its brick was made by hand on the site while the home was going up.
A 547-square-foot front porch, with its original hardwood floor, leads to the original Dutch entry door and its matching screen door. Inside, the living room has a gas-log fireplace beneath a custom vaulted ceiling with exposed beams, and refinished hardwood runs through the home. The kitchen was extensively renovated with quartzite counters, custom cabinetry, a center island and a commercial-style gas range, and a dining room links it to the great room. Original door hardware still works with skeleton keys, and brass thresholds remain.
The primary suite is on the main level and opens directly to a fenced saltwater pool. Two more bedrooms on that floor share a hall bath with a jetted tub. Upstairs, two bedrooms are joined by a Jack-and-Jill bath that keeps its original tile floors and walls, and the floor also has a cedar closet and a walk-in attic. The home has five bedrooms, the most among the five sales, along with three bathrooms and 3,304 square feet on a 0.43-acre corner lot.
A detached two-car garage was once connected to the home by a columned pergola, and a private garden lies behind it. The home sold for $850,000. The property last sold for $485,000 in 2025.
Jennifer Deacon of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Blue Ridge REALTORS® was the listing agent, and Starla Hoke of McCombs & Hoke Real Estate represented the buyer.

Grandfather Mountain is the view from the main rooms. A stone fireplace anchors the open living area, and the primary bedroom has large windows facing the same mountain, with a clerestory window above the bed. The back porch is built like an outdoor room, with a vaulted tongue-and-groove ceiling, wood beams and a king post truss. The kitchen has granite counters, custom cabinets, a travertine backsplash, an island with seating and dual wall ovens.
The main level is laid out for living on one floor, with the garage reached without steps. The walk-out lower level has its own mountain view, a den with a wet bar and two sliding glass doors to the patio and lawn, two guest bedrooms and a flex room with a workbench. The home has three bedrooms, three bathrooms (two full and one half) and 2,335 square feet, with an attached two-car garage.
Within the community are equestrian centers, a vineyard, a community garden and a mountaintop clubhouse with a pool and fitness center. Pisgah National Forest and the Wilson Creek area are across the road. The home sold for $845,000.
